I have a process that runs every 5 minutes to perform a relatively failure-prone task.
I want to be alerted if the process fails every time for 2 hours straight.
So I defined a metric, ERROR, which is the Sum of the occurrences of the error pattern, with a period of 5 minutes.
Then I defined an Alarm as
ERROR >= 1 for 24 datapoints within 2 hours
However, as soon as 2 errors occurred, the alarm triggered.
Clearly my definition was incorrect, but as I tried to refer back to documentation and clarify my reasoning, I realized I don't really understand there are 3 parameters here, instead of just 2.
This is a 2-parameter problem: I want an alert on 24 failures over 24 data-points.
What's the proper way to translate my requirement to the 3-parameter "threshold, M, N" format?
